Can I use the composite A/V cables to connect my camcorder to my media center pc?

If you have a firewire port on your camcorder, you should use a firewire cable instead.
Firewire not only transfers the audio/video signal. I also links the camcorder controls to the computer, so you can control the camcorder from the computer.
