Is a “media-Center-PC” the same as a decent PC running Windows-XP Media Center?
silicon_valley_geek asked:
If I start with a modern PC with a decent graphics card and a DVD writer, and if I install Windows-XP Media Center Edition on it, does it become a Media Center PC? I kind of doubt that, but I need to know what else I need to add. Are any of the followings necessary or desired: a TV tuner, dual TV tuner, S-Video output, firewall connection, DVI connection?

You can’t buy Media Center.- According to the Microsoft web site:
Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 is only available pre-installed on computers sold by PC manufacturers. You can purchase a PC with Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 pre-installed at retail consumer electronic stores, direct from PC manufacturers, or through online consumer electronics Web sites.
you would need a tv tuner and a huge hard drive(400gig). your video card should have an s-video out on it. you can legally buy the media center edition, but as an oem only. microsoft will not give you any free tech support. go here for media center
