The machine has a PCI-e x16 slot, but it also has a wimpy power supply, so you can’t go with a video card that needs too much juice. Don’t know what card you tried or what the problem was.
The new card must be compatible with the motherboard and the other parts. See a computer dealer or buy the same model as before. nVidia GPUs are great.
