Is it safe to put my Media Center PC in a tv stand with little to no ventilation?

j0hnsmith asked:

Hi,

I recently purchased HP z540 media center pc which is connected to the tv. I have a tv stand thats made of wood and have a small hole in the back for the wires. Other than that small, it has no other ventilation except when I open the glass door. My question is it safe to put it into the tv stand (i.e. won’t over heat if I leave it on 24/7)?

No, because your your computer might overheat.

no that is not a good idea, you should either cut out the back of the tv stand, or put a few fans in to circulate air around the computer (one on each side of teh stand, one pulling air in the other pushing air out) otherwise you will not have a computer for very long

Unless its liquid cooled that will most likely kill your new computer. They need fresh air to circulate and cool them selves to otherwise there circulating heated air, much like a convection oven and it will burn out.
