media center desktop pcs

Just formated PC and there are 2 operating system to start: Windows XP home & Pro, how to remove the bad one?

Sunny asked:

After i formated my computer, i have 2 operating system to start when i turn on my PC:

Windows XP home and Windows XP media center(the one i have before).

Note, i did a fresh installed, and all the old data are removed. i don’t know why there still windows media on start. When i chose the Windows XP media, it said “windows could not start because the file is missing” the means i did remove all the old data, but why there are 2 operating system to start ?

Thanks for your help!

I know what you mean, I had a heck of a time getting rid of McAfee after they messed up my computer.

It was no problem after I formatted the hard disc, but it caused me all sorts of trouble. I

If the “Add/Remove” Programs doesn’t do it for
go to “Search” and enter look for the program there. Search is just below “settings” on the main menu.

Try booting off the windows XP home CD and go into set up. Then find the partition with XP MCE and delete it.

I suggest you reformat again, but when you install the fresh copy, make sure you format all partitions so that nothing is lingering. My brother had the same problem, I just made sure I cleared every partition out before I reinstalled windows.

When you format your PC you must remover the existing partitions then create new ones. Then format then install windows.
    This will work.

Most likely u have either 2 hard drives or one hard drive with 2 partitions. Go to my computer in windows and select the stuff u wanna backup and burn them on a cd. Then insert the xp setup cd and restart d comp, dont install from within windows, do it in ms dos and also make sure yur cd rom is part of d boot sequence. u can check that in d bios. Now in d setup itself, u will see yur partitions. U may see 2 or 3, delete ALL and then create a new one, dey may ask u for a number. Eg if u have a 40GB Hard drive, d 2 partitions may be 20 20, 10, 30, etc as long it adds up to 40. Since u want one operating system, use yur whole hard drive. When u create it, u may see another partition space called “unpartitioned space” leave that alone cause thats XP Storing partitioning information. To make sure select it and try to delete it and d notice will come up. After partitioning, dey will ask u to format, prefarably NTFS Quick format and well follow the rest of d setup. Hope this helps, laterz!
